I have read Silver Surfer stories for years and enjoyed them from the time since Norrin Radd first came to earth in Fantastic Four #48 in March 1966. There is something about the sad story of how Norrin became the Silver Surfer and Herald of Galactus, who was a cosmic force of destruction. Galactus hunger drove him to devour and absorber the power and substance of a planet. Norrin’s sacrifice saved his planet homeworld Zenn-La but condemned him to search the heavens using his Cosmic powers to find more planets for Galactus’ hunger.
SPOILER WARNING: Dan Slott’s story in Silver Surfer 10 is one of self-sacrifice and emotion which touches the very heart of Norrin Radd and his companion Dawn Greenwood. Against all odds together they and the people survived the attack of Galactus and the destruction of their planet. Norrin realizes his love for his companion and swears to take her home after he finds a safe place for the people.
Michael and Laura art is outstanding and tells the story very well. It is one of those stories you read and say well done to all that participated in the comic book production. The emotion and nobility of the lesser beings Galactus would devour, shake the resolve of a being who has lived billions of years. It was like standing up to the power of a hurricane and making it change course. Dan is fast becoming one of my favorite writers. I look forward to seeing how he resolves this cosmic story. Dan’s understanding of how Marvel works is amazing, to say the least. Stay tuned cosmic readers of comic books for more. 🙂 Walt
